RESEARCH 4.0

Open · Reproducible · AI-Augmented · Connected

Stage 1 — Knowledge Ingestion

Every research breakthrough begins with a corpus. RESEARCH 4.0 treats knowledge ingestion not as a clerical task but as the first act of intelligence — the moment a researcher's accumulated reading becomes a structured, queryable, AI-ready foundation. The platform ingests publications, patents, and raw documents in a single unified pipeline.

Publications are imported with full bibliographic metadata: title, authors, journal, DOI, citation counts, citing patents, Open Access status, Fields of Study, and MeSH terms. Patents carry abstracts, jurisdiction, legal status, applicant and inventor records, CPC and IPC classifications linked to the Axiom knowledge graph, and both forward and backward citation counts.

Uploaded PDFs — papers, datasets, reports, preprints — are processed by the platform's NVIDIA 20 PFlops GPU inference cluster. Every file is tracked, linked back to matched publications where applicable, and processed in monitored batches. The output is structured JSON synthesis — the raw material for every downstream analysis.

The bottleneck of science is not intelligence.
It is the failure to connect what is already known.

RESEARCH 4.0 eliminates that bottleneck at the source. Before a researcher asks a single question, the platform has already read, indexed, and cross-referenced every document in their corpus.

Stage 2 — AI Synthesis & Discovery

URSA Agents · RAG Chat · Synthesis Service

Each research project is assigned one or more URSA Agents — AI research assistants configurable with Gemini, OpenAI, Claude, Grok, or local air-gapped inference. Each agent maintains its own activity log and synthesis history, and processes uploaded files to generate four structured output types.

Output Type What It Produces
Research Ideas Title, novelty score (0–100), impact level, implementation horizon, required resources, next steps, supporting publications
Knowledge Gaps Priority, status (open / verified white space / filled), verification evidence, spin-out link to new Research Idea
Research Questions Question text, answer summary, source citations, status (pending / answered / unknown), auto-investigator integration
Commercial Opportunities Score, potential level, market data, VC simulation ready — feeds directly into the Planetary View

The Synthesis Service aggregates outputs from multiple agents into a Master Portfolio JSON, applies novelty scoring and deduplication, and exposes a synthesis data endpoint that feeds all downstream visualizations. The SPECTRA Synthesis layer merges cross-agent outputs at startup, powering platform-wide idea discovery and cross-project insight linking.

RAG Chat (Lab Chat) provides an agent-scoped conversational interface backed by vector search. Researchers ask questions about their uploaded documents; answers include source citations from the corpus. Three modes are available: Lab Chat (document-scoped), Project Chat (project-scoped), and VC Simulation — where the AI plays investor personas to pressure-test commercial viability.

Stage 3 — Visualization & Exploration

Research Canvas · Planetary View · Paradigms & Axioms

Data that cannot be seen cannot be understood. RESEARCH 4.0 provides five distinct visualization environments, each designed to reveal a different dimension of the research landscape.

Research Canvas — Interactive 2D canvas. Idea nodes (blue), Gap nodes (red/orange), Question nodes (purple), Opportunity nodes (green). Drag-and-drop with saved coordinates, auto-layout, and a detail inspector panel per node.

Discovery Hub — Three-pane master-detail interface. Left rail switches between Ideas, Opportunities, Gaps, and Questions. Centre pane shows grouped, filterable, searchable feeds. Right drawer shows full item detail with star, delete, incubate, and spin-out actions.

Planetary View — 3D orbital visualization. The research project is the Sun. Commercial opportunities are Planets (size and orbital distance = score). Knowledge gaps are Asteroids orbiting their nearest opportunity. Research questions are Probes. Interactive drill-down to the Publications Map.

Publications Map — Network graph showing relationships between uploaded papers, their citations, and linked patents. Powered by synthesis cross-referencing.

Paradigms & Axioms — 3D knowledge graph organized into five reality tiers: Logic & Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Society & Engineering. Axioms carry formal notation, confidence scores, and AI curation. CPC Entanglement links patent classifications to scientific principles with relevance scores.

The most powerful instrument in science
is not the microscope. It is the map.

Stage 4 — Idea Incubation

Idea Vault · Idea Incubator · V0 Genesis

A research idea is not a project. It is a hypothesis waiting to be structured. The Idea Vault collects every synthesis idea across all agents — filterable by public/private status, Arena participation, impact level, and novelty score. From the Vault, any idea can be promoted to the Incubator.

The Idea Incubator transforms a raw research idea into a structured draft project through three sequential processes. Gene Harvest finds cousin ideas from the same synthesis batch, providing conceptual raw material. V0 Genesis uses AI to generate a full project blueprint — abstract, problem statement, objectives, methodology, roadmap phases, experiment protocols, and technology and market keywords. Solar System Evaluation auto-populates the Planetary View with opportunities, gaps, and questions scoped to the incubated project.

// Incubation pipeline
Gene Harvest    →  Cousin idea discovery
V0 Genesis     →  Full project blueprint (AI)
Solar System   →  Planetary View auto-population
Promotion      →  Active project + Arena publication

Once ready, the incubated project is promoted to a full active project and simultaneously published to The Arena with public visibility. Promoted projects carry a URSA Insights tab — a permanent record of the idea's genetic DNA: origin idea, novelty assessment, cousin ideas consulted, original roadmap blueprint, and incubation timestamp.

Stage 5 — Research Project Management

Kanban · Gantt · Milestones · Protocols · Lab Notes

A research project in RESEARCH 4.0 is a complete collaborative workspace. Each project carries nine structured content sections — Abstract, Problem, Objectives, Methodology, Resources, Participants, Results & Impact, Dissemination, and Timeline — alongside a full task management system with Kanban board, table view, and Gantt chart.

Tasks carry title, Markdown description, status, priority, category, assignee, start and due datetime, progress percentage, and blocking dependencies. Milestones group tasks into project phases with computed progress visible on the public Arena page. Experiment Protocols record hypothesis, variables, and metrics. Lab Notes provide an internal team scratchpad invisible to public viewers. Project Reports are published progress updates with timestamps.

Org Admin / OwnerYesYesYes

Every project workspace includes a linked URSA Agents tab — quick access to synthesis, canvas, and discovery hub from within the project context. The research and the intelligence that generated it are never more than one click apart.

Stage 6 — Community Validation

The Arena · Governance Voting · S40 Token

Science that cannot be validated is not science. The Arena is a public feed of promoted research projects, accessible without login. Each project page shows abstract, problem, methodology, milestones with progress bars, published reports, team roster, and supporter count. Social metadata is ready for sharing.

Any authenticated user can Support a project with one vote, backed by S40 governance. On the first vote, a governance Proposal is automatically created with a 365-day duration. Subsequent votes cast against that proposal. Votes are permanent. Oracle-rank voters carry a +35% weight bonus — rewarding long-term platform contributors with greater influence over which research directions receive community endorsement.

Peer review was Science 3.0's validation mechanism.
Community governance is RESEARCH 4.0's.

The Arena is not a popularity contest. It is a decentralized signal — a continuous, weighted referendum on which research problems matter most to the global scientific community. The projects that rise are the ones the world most needs solved.

The 5-Tier Knowledge Architecture

Logic · Physics · Chemistry · Biology · Society

The 5-Tier Knowledge Architecture is the foundational ontological framework of SCIENCE 4.0, organizing all verifiable human knowledge into a strict hierarchy of five emergent layers. Each tier builds upon the axioms and constraints established by the tier below it — no scientific claim in any higher tier may contradict a lower-tier axiom.

Tier 1 — Logic is the base layer: the formal system of inference, consistency, and provability. It contains the irreducible axioms of deductive reasoning — the rules by which any statement may be validated or falsified.

Tier 2 — Physics encodes the laws governing matter, energy, space, and time. Rooted in the logical framework of Tier 1, its axioms describe symmetry, conservation, and causality — the physical envelope within which all natural processes must operate.

Tier 3 — Chemistry defines the rules of molecular interaction: bonding, reactivity, thermodynamic stability, and elemental composition. Its axioms are constrained by physics and expressed in the language of logic, describing the combinatorial space of possible molecular structures.

Tier 4 — Biology captures the emergent principles of living systems — metabolism, replication, evolution, and homeostasis. Biological axioms are always consistent with chemistry and physics but introduce complexity, teleology, and information as first-class concepts.

Tier 5 — Society is the apex tier: the domain of cognition, cooperation, institutions, and culture. Its axioms govern how agents with biological substrates organize knowledge, distribute resources, and co-create meaning within shared environments.

// Tier hierarchy — each layer constrains the one above
Tier 1  Logic       →  Inference · Consistency · Provability
Tier 2  Physics      →  Symmetry · Conservation · Causality
Tier 3  Chemistry    →  Bonding · Reactivity · Thermodynamics
Tier 4  Biology      →  Metabolism · Evolution · Information
Tier 5  Society      →  Cognition · Cooperation · Meaning

Each tier is assigned a confidence score for its constituent axioms, a health status, and optional formal notation — enabling SCIENCE 4.0 to track the epistemic stability of any claim relative to its tier origin and inter-tier dependencies. The Paradigms & Axioms visualization renders this hierarchy as a navigable 3D knowledge graph, making the architecture of human understanding visible for the first time.

Stage 7 — Organizations & Institutional Layer

Research Organizations · Scientist Profiles · Academic Intelligence

Individual researchers do not work in isolation. RESEARCH 4.0 provides a full institutional layer: research organizations with types, logos, descriptions, and public profiles. Members join with roles — Owner, Admin, Editor, Member, or Viewer — and link their projects, agents, and team members to the organization. University affiliations are supported for Student 4.0 users.

Scientist Profiles aggregate publications, citation counts, h-index, research keyword tags (technology and market), and social links including ORCID, LinkedIn, GitHub, and institutional website. A researcher's identity on RESEARCH 4.0 is not a form. It is a living academic record.

// AI providers supported
Gemini       →  Google DeepMind
OpenAI       →  GPT-4o and successors
Claude       →  Anthropic
Grok         →  xAI
URSA Assistant  →  Local inference, air-gapped

The platform supports encrypted LLM API keys per agent, HIPAA-compliant storage patterns with S3 and KMS encryption, and file type validation on uploads. RESEARCH 4.0 is built for institutions that cannot afford to compromise on data security — and for researchers who should not have to.
